There is also the “Garden of the Fugitives” this is where numerous plaster casted victims are on display where they originally fell and were overtaken by ash and pumice. The plants within the garden have been reconstructed as well to represent the ancient growth patterns based on studies conducted on the plasters casts of the plant roots. Pompeii was very well conserved for over 1,000 years due to the ash and pumice, which formed a seal from the weather. However, now as parts have been excavated and still more is left to be excavated, the ancient city is gradually weakening due to the elements. Tourism is a good way to bring money into the site and permitting more conservation efforts, however preserving and restoring such artifacts is time consuming and expensive.
